Security updates

We regularly publish security updates (patches/fixes) for the currently supported webPDF versions (see "supported versions" below). These updates are published in the changelog. The new features and corrections for the respective webPDF version are listed there in the corresponding changelog entry.

note

You should follow the changelog or subscribe to the Atom feed. You can also subscribe to the webPDF newsletter, through which we also announce the updates.

Update cycle

webPDF is a Java-based server solution that has been running on the OpenJDK since version 8. We currently use the LTS (Long Term Support) versions of the OpenJDK of the Eclipse Temurin™ project. When updating webPDF, we follow the update cycle of the OpenJDK used in the respective webPDF version. Currently, an update is available approximately once a quarter for the LTS versions of the OpenJDK (see Adoptium Relase Roadmap).

As soon as the OpenJDK update is released, we will promptly make the updates for webPDF available. In the "Google Calendar with our release cycle", the Adaoptium team provides the exact schedule that we also have to follow. Therefore, we cannot give exact dates for the webPDF update.

note

Occasionally, problems may arise in the construction processes at our company or Adaoptium, which may cause slight delays in the schedule.

The OpenJDK version currently used by webPDF can be found under "Java Environment".

If the situation requires it, we also provide updates outside this cycle, e.g. if serious security vulnerabilities (e.g. "CVE" with "High Priority") have occurred. If we become aware of such problems, we will analyze them and then decide on a case-by-case basis whether a problem can be resolved as part of the normal update cycle or whether an unscheduled update is necessary.

Scope of the updates

In the webPDF updates, we update the OpenJDK used (see "update cycle") and all Java libraries used as "security updates". If (technically) possible, we always use the latest versions of the Java libraries in the various webPDF versions. However, it may happen that an update of a library/tool used within a webPDF version is not possible, so that a change of the entire webPDF version is necessary to obtain this update.

With the latest webPDF release, we always try to keep all the tools and libraries used up to date - where technically possible. With the previous version, we generally limit ourselves to "security updates".

In addition to updating the external dependencies, we also provide all problems found up to that point and their corrections in the updates. Often (smaller) enhancements ("feature updates") are also included in the updates. However, we usually only provide these "feature updates" for the current webPDF release.

All changes are published in the changelog for the respective update.

note

You should always install the Updates as soon as possible. However, please follow the instructions in the respective Changelog-Eintrag.

Supported versions

With webPDF there are always two versions in support: the current release and the previous version. When a new version is released, the oldest version is automatically removed from support and no longer receives updates.

Example: The current release is webPDF 10 and the previous version is webPDF 9. We therefore currently support version 10 and version 9. With the release of the next version, i.e., webPDF 11, the supported versions will change to webPDF 10 and webPDF 11. webPDF 9 will then automatically fall out of support and will no longer receive updates.
