Step-by-step installation
The following is a description of the dialog-box-based Windows installation process. To install webPDF in Linux, please use the DEB or RPM package.
It is recommended to back up the current installation before installing a new version. Make sure that you have a backup of the current version before starting a new installation.
A number of parameters can be declared when starting the installation program. For a description, please consult the "Installation Options" section in the Appendix.
Installation
The installation is started by double-clicking on the downloaded installation file.
The following dialog box allows you to select the desired language. The selection only applies for carrying out the installation instructions and must be confirmed with "OK".
After the "Welcome" dialog box may see a note informing about a previous installation.
Before installing webPDF, make sure to back up the existing configuration (all the files in the conf/, keystore/ folders and all manually customized files) for the existing installation. Starting with version 7 of webPDF, the configuration is stored in C:\ProgramData\webPDF.
If an existing version has the same major version number as the version you want to install, you can update it directly. The existing version will then be updated.

If the previous version has a different version number, you should not perform a direct update, but uninstall the previous version first. Only then should you start the installation program again and carry out the installation.

If you keep the Runtime data during Uninstall, this will be applied during reinstallation, and you will not have to reconfigure everything.
After the "Welcome" dialog box, the license terms for webPDF will be displayed. Please read these carefully, and if you are in agreement, confirm the dialog box and then click on “Next”.
The installation routine checks several of the system environment parameters in the next step.

If additional components are required, they will be selected. If all required components are already installed, this will be shown. Click on “Next” to proceed to the next dialog box.
The availability of the required TCP/IP ports will be checked now.
If the ports are being used by another application, then the installation routine will inform you accordingly. You will then need to change the ports to a different value.
Use this port for the installation of the webPDF server or select a different port. You will later reach the web portal in the browser or the server’s web services under the port selected here.

Confirm your selection with the “Next” button.
The following dialog box allows you to select the type of license. You can install webPDF as a 30-day demo version (standard) without entering a license key, or, if you already have a license key, you can enter it directly in the dialog box and webPDF will be installed as a full version.

Select the corresponding option in the dialog box, enter the license key if applicable, and click on the “Next” button.
The dialog box that follows can be used to change the installation directory (if an update is not being run). If you want to keep the default directory, then skip the dialog box by clicking "Continue".
In the next step, select the components which are to be installed.

If you do not want to start the webPDF server as a service, but as a "normal application" instead (and only when it is necessary), then you will have to deselect the option.
Regardless of the setup options you have selected, the following dialog box will allow you to enter a folder name or add webPDF to an existing program group. Confirm your selection by clicking "Continue".
The last dialog box provides you with a summary of the settings which have been made. When you click on the “Next” button here, the installation of webPDF begins.
At the conclusion of the installation, you will be shown one more dialog box which you must confirm with “Finish”. Afterward, the installation is complete.

If you have selected the option “Install as a Windows service” under Windows, the webPDF server will be started directly during the installation and will consequently be running in the background when you complete the installation.
